What else?
About paternity leave and enjoying every second of it
Gratitude. That's what I think about.
Paternity leave, so far, has been the best. Being 100 percent focused and available to my family, it's an incredible feeling. Rewarding, peaceful, satisfactory.
It's also great to have complete flexibility, time and space to spend with the baby, while also doing what we have to do around the house and in life, in general, because no matter what, life never stops.
You know what's also great? Resting and not having to be available to others. And most importantly, being able to just sleep when it's needed. Because, although he's getting better at sleeping longer, there are still plenty of long nights and 2-3 a.m. feeds. And for those, not having to worry about a 9 a.m. start is marvellous.
The best part of all is simply the time we spent together, and all the moments that come with it. The times we fall asleep on the couch together. The times we go out for a walk in the middle of the day and go to the park. Choosing a record and listening to it together from start to finish. And days like today, where it's just the three of us dancing around the living room to our favourite songs. I love it.
I love every second of it. I love thinking about it, and just remembering it makes me smile.
Those are the moments that make me think and say, "We won. We have it all. This is it. We have arrived." Because what else is there if it's not moments like that? This moment, right here. There's nothing else.
