I thought I had it

Sometimes you think you have a clear idea of what you are going after, but the gap between that vision and the execution is way wider than anticipated. Today is one of those days.

I had a clear view of what I was going for. The heart of the story, the images, the emotion behind it and driving it, yet I could not find my way around it.

Draft after draft, I could not find my way in. The heart is there, but the words just circle around it.

It just is not happening.

Not ideal, but not the end of the world... as long as I do something about it.

This is that something.

On days like today, it is not about what I set out to achieve in the long term, but about the actions that can lead there, taking even one step that will allow me to stay on course, to avoid breaking the chain of previous actions. Because although at times one step might seem insignificant, even irrelevant, it's always one step closer than before. One step firmer. Sticking to the plan, committed to yourself.

Acting upon it, in whatever way, will always be more valuable in the long term than the immediate comfort that comes from going away when things get blurry, hard or uncomfortable.
