Blurry and tired
About perspective, support and balance
The last two weeks have been a complete blur. They have gone fast, and at times have even been confusing. Everything feels, well, blurry.
Time passes differently. 10 am is like my 6 am. Midnight seems like 10 pm. At any given time, it is later than what you think it is.
Showers feel like (and are) a reward, and sleeping 4 straight hours is now what we aspire to, a dream that we wish would become a reality every time we go to bed after 2 am.
This is a glimpse into reality with a newborn baby.
However, I believe everything becomes manageable with two things.
The first one is perspective. Despite the broken sleep and the challenges that come from it, if you are clear on 'why' you are doing what you are doing, then, in reality, there is not so much hassle. Yes, it is challenging. It can be hard, it can be tiring, but we're doing it, so there is a rationale behind it; there is a reason. Everything else is just noise, and it becomes irrelevant when you silence it, when you know that what you are doing it for, and who you are doing it for, is greater than any of the burden.
The second one: get the right someone by your side. It cannot be anybody; it has to be the right person. One who shares the perspective, but most importantly, has your back as much as you have theirs, and helps bring balance when the scale is, by default, uneven. Someone as tired as you, yet still offers to switch places, or gives up their own sleep so you can get a bit more. That's the right someone.
I got both. That's why it doesn't feel that hard.
